Back to Iraq

About a month ago, I left my family in Georgia and deployed to Iraq again. We barely had a year together since the last deployment, and much of that time was spent in recovery and preparing for our new mission--in other words, it wasn't quality time. I appreciate my little family's faith and support, as well as that of extended family, friends, and neighbors. I hope to use this blog--once again--as a tool to stay in touch with loved ones.

Once in Kuwait, we spent more than a week becoming acclimated to the desert and training. It was a good opportunity to spend time with my dear friend, Chaplain Tim Fary. The battalions we serve are identical in structure and content (except his is called infantry and mine armor), so we share a lot of the same hopes and frustrations in ministry. We are quite different. Our theological views differ, but our appreciation for reasoning and the arts are similarly strong. He's very funny, and I'm very smart, so we make a good team. Unfortunately, he's north of Ramadi, and baring special trips--we won't be seeing much of each other this year.

The picture here is of Sergeant Tremain, my chaplain assistant. We're preparing to board a plane and fly into Iraq under the cover of darkness. The interior space was huge! There is a lot more to share about the last month, but in time, I'll get caught up.

Sad that you had to go so soon, but glad that the troops have you to lend support. Keep me posted.

Sure do miss you! It was wonderful to read the article in today's paper about you.

Keep keeping on. We're doing the same back here as we wait for your return and the return of the others.

Sincerely, Reia aka the Piano/Organ lady)
